Spirit & Distillery-Themed Valentine’s Day Ideas for Him

Is your partner a distillery enthusiast? Perhaps they just really love trying new spirits and doing tastings. Regardless, we’ve got several ideas for you to make this Valentine’s Day extra special for them!

#1: Set Up an At-Home Tasting

First, consider what your loved one’s favorite spirits are – for example, if he loves gin, pick up a collection of locally-distilled gins! If you’re looking for what might be in your area, check out our page where you can browse distilleries by state. Find some nearby distilleries and see if they have a special tasting lineup that you can set up.

And, the fun doesn’t have to stop there! Perhaps you can try those same spirits in some mixed drinks to see which one brings out the best flavor. Have fun with this idea, and maybe put out a charcuterie board and some roses, too!

#2: Double-Blind Tasting Session: Guess That Spirit!

This can be a fun activity for couples – especially ones that are competitive and really know their spirits! In order to set up a double-blind tasting, you’ll need identical tasting glasses and some masking tape or garage sale stickers. First, label the bottom of each bottle you’ll be tasting with a number or letter. Then, label the bottom of your glasses as you pour the spirit into each glass.

The person who poured the tasting glasses should then let their partner mix up the glasses. Then the pourer mixes them up once more. Now, no one knows which glass is which! Start tasting, using a printed tasting wheel or notecards; guess which spirit is which and tally your results; who will be the winner?

#3: Set Up a Private Tasting at a Local Distillery

There’s nothing more romantic than a private event for you and your loved one. While this might be a bit pricier than an at-home evening of tasting delicious booze, the in-distillery experience is certainly something you don’t want to miss out on offering to your love – especially if they’ve never been.

As a hint earlier in the day, you could always give them a book or guide to tasting the specific spirit you’ll be experiencing later; for example, pick up Tasting Whiskey: An Insider’s Guide to the Unique Pleasures of the World’s Finest Spirits before a night out at a local whiskey distillery!

#4: Local Distillery Tours

Another idea – probably one of our favorites – is to take your loved one on a local distillery tour! This event is exciting for spirit enthusiasts because they get to experience the inside of a distillery and see how everything works! From the shiny, tall, column stills to the copper pot stills, this journey will be one they talk about all year! (And honestly, it might be hard to top.)

To see which distilleries are nearby where you are, check out our “by state” page. Here, you can quickly and easily identify where the closest and most interesting distilleries are.

#5: Hop on a Plane for the Trip of a Lifetime!

Does your sweetheart have a favorite whiskey, rum, or bourbon? Find out where that spirit is distilled here in America and book a small vacation! You can search our database with the search icon in the top bar to see where your journey will take you.

While this will be a pricey trip, there’s certainly nothing like touring the distillery where your favorite spirit is made – take it from us. This will be a trip to remember for the rest of their life!
