15 Best Pittsburgh Distilleries We Highly Recommend

1) Maggie’s Farm Rum Distillery

Location: 3212 Smallman St, Pittsburgh

There are so many variations of rum you can try out at Maggie’s Farm, it’s hard to know where to start.

Whether you try out their signature 80-proof white rum mixed with a plethora of spices, or you want a more vibrant and unique variation like the pineapple or mango rum, this distillery is a must-visit for all those rum lovers out there.

2) Kingfly Spirits

Location: 2613 Smallman St, Pittsburgh

While the Kingfly Spirits distillery does offer visitors a private tour around the very traditional interior of the carriage house which was originally built in 1906, along with taste tests of one of their four premium crafted spirits including sweet limoncello and aged spice rum, they are also known for their event calendar including the likes of jazz concerts and special taste testing sessions for unique drinks such as the smoky Witch’s Brew.

3) Lawrenceville Distilling 

Location: 5410 Harrison St, Pittsburgh

Located at the heart of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville, this distillery is home to some of the most renowned hand-crafted spirits across all of Pennsylvania including their incredibly potent Parking Chair Vodka and Ginzer Gin, along with a plethora of unique takes on classic cocktails such as the old fashioned and pumpkin spiced rum all made using locally-sourced grains to elevate the flavors of each drink while also supporting local companies and farms.

Don’t forget to grab a bite in the pop-up resident restaurant Bodega Off Butler inside the distillery which serves a mouthwatering selection of nachos, burritos, and other meaty favorites to tuck into after testing out the various spirits and cocktails on offer.

4) McLaughlin Distillery

McLaughlin specializes in putting their own unique spins on these two spirits such as their jalapeno and pickle moonshine, and their applewood smoked and maple whiskey, giving you plenty to try out depending on your taste preferences.

Whether you take the public half-hour tour or the more in-depth and informative hour-long private tour of this distillery, both will teach you about the incredibly rich history of this traditional distillery which has been around since the early 20th century.

6) Quantum Spirits

Location: 230 E Main St, Carnegie, Pittsburgh

The motto of Quantum Spirits “respect the past, drink to the future” really does sum up the atmosphere and theme of this distillery, putting modern twists on traditional spirit and cocktail recipes by using unique grains and aging the alcohol to perfection.

Be sure to try out their signature Marquette Liquor which uses rooibos to give the drink a little more sweetness and an almost nutty texture, or their heavy water vodka made using Scandinavian winter wheat.

7) Ridge Runner Distillery

Location: 417 Fayette Springs Rd, Chalkhill, Pittsburgh

This micro-distillery located in the lush Laurel Highland specializes in crafting vodka, moonshine, and brandy, but what really makes them stand out is their flavored products outside of the base spirits including their root beer flavored spirits, along with the incredibly popular apple and peach pie variants which taste as crisp and fruity as they sound.

Tours are also available on Saturdays and Sundays if you want to learn a little more about how these uniquely flavored spirits are made before you try them for yourself.

8) Lucky Sign Spirits

Location: 215 North Ave, Millvale, Pittsburgh

While it only opened in 2020, Lucky Sign has made quite the reputation for just how many unconventional flavors they offer visitors not only to taste, but to take home for themselves, and even a few cocktails to-go.

Raki made from twice-distilled grapes and akvavit are just two examples of the incredibly unique variety of spirits Lucky Signs offers visitors that you will struggle to find in even the biggest of distilleries.

9) Pennsylvania Libations

What once started as a small and quaint humble broker company has expanded and transformed into one of the most popular distilleries in all of Pennsylvania, and a big reason for this is because Pennsylvania Libations is dedicated to only selling Pennsylvania-made spirits, beers, ciders, and wines, not only giving you a more local taste of the grains and spices that the state has to offer, but also supporting local industries in the process too.

10) Crooked Creek Distillery

All spirits in the Crooked Creek Distillery are made using in-house mash on the grain to allow each of their drinks to taste crisp, refined, and incredibly potent, making for some unique mixtures and flavors such as their premium Pumpkin Pie Moonshine and Apple Pie Whiskey which can all be taste-tested or taken home in a bottle.

This isn’t even mentioning the jaw-dropping view of the glistening Philadelphia rivers that surround the distillery, giving you an astonishing view while you sip on a delightful cocktail.

11) Country Hammer Moonshine

Location: 5846 Library Rd, Bethel Park, Pittsburgh

If you’re a fan of the strong and slightly spicy taste of moonshine, or if you want to try it out for the first time, this distillery located right in the heart of Bethel Park offers visitors a staggering 50 flavors of the spirit that you can try at your own leisure as part of the free tasting sessions.

14) Liberty Pole Spirits

If you want to learn more about the history of distilling and especially its relevance within Pennsylvania, the Liberty Pole Spirits tour is one of the most educational and informative tours out there, teaching visitors about the Whiskey Rebellion and the role Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh played in creating alcohol throughout the prohibition.

Once the tour is finished, you will arrive in the colonial-style dining room where you are free to sip on some of the fantastic whiskey variants that are lined up in front of the warm and cozy fireplace.
