When Is Pride Month?

This vibrant annual event takes place every June, honoring the LGBTQ+ community’s rich history, achievements, and ongoing fight for equality. From lively parades to thought-provoking discussions and dazzling displays of solidarity, Pride Month offers a diverse range of activities that inspire, educate, and foster acceptance.

What’s the History of Pride Month?

The history of Pride Month is deeply rooted in a pivotal moment that sparked a movement for LGBTQ+ rights. It traces back to the Stonewall Uprising in June 1969, a series of protests that took place in New York City’s Greenwich Village. The LGBTQ+ community, tired of enduring discriminatory practices and police raids, rose up in defiance, led by transgender women of color, such as Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera.

Their courage and resilience ignited a wave of activism and advocacy, laying the foundation for the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. In the years that followed, Pride Month emerged as an annual commemoration of the Stonewall Uprising, a time to honor the struggles, celebrate the progress, and raise awareness about the ongoing challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community.

Today, Pride Month has grown into a beautiful, global phenomenon, serving as a reminder of the power of unity, visibility, and the continuous fight for equality for all.

Vibrant Pride Cocktails to Sip on for Pride Month:

Whether you’re hosting a fabulous pride party or simply looking to add some flair to your own personal celebration, these captivating pride cocktails are sure to be the life of the party. So, grab your shakers, prepare your garnishes, and let’s dive into some exquisite sips. Let the festivities begin!

The “Bi Babe” Cocktail

This pride cocktail flaunts colors from the bisexual flag, and it’s delicious – you can’t go wrong with this one. You’ll need some colorful garnishes, too, so don’t forget those!

To make yourself one of these cocktails, grab some pink Moscato and pour out 4 oz of it and 1 oz gin into a glass. Add a splash of limoncello and toss in some halved blueberries. Keep in mind that this is a strong drink, so sip in style responsibly.

Rainbow Shooters

These vibrant cocktail shots are a testament to the dedication and finesse that both crafting a drink and advocating for a movement require. With a delightful combination of coconut rum, blue raspberry vodka, pineapple juice, and a touch of grenadine, these mini Pride drinks will add a festive touch to your celebrations.

To make a single rainbow shooter, you’ll need to first mix up 1 oz coconut rum and 1 oz pineapple juice. Once chilled, strain this mixture ¾ of the way down the shot glass. Drizzle a splash of grenadine into the very bottom of the shot glass – grenadine is denser than the rum and pineapple juice, so it should sink nicely. Finally, float ½ oz blue raspberry vodka on top – this should be easy if you use a spoon (the vodka is less dense than the pineapple juice used in the middle layer).

If you don’t get it right the first time, that’s okay!

Spiked Rainbow Jello Shots

We couldn’t make a list for Pride Month without mentioning jello shots, could we? Jello shots are unique because you can get those defined colors and intense flavor without compromising on the boozy-ness. Since Jello shots are a bit involved, check out the recipe from Tipsy Bartender here.

A Trans Pride Shot

If you’re looking for something blue, pink, and white to rep that transgender pride, this shot is perfect.

Start out with ½ oz blue curacao syrup and ½ oz pina colada drink shaken with ice and strained into a shot glass. Next, shake up ½ oz coconut rum and ½ oz pina colada drink with ice; strain it into your shot glass about ⅓ the way down.

Finally, combine ½ oz pina colada drink, ½ oz strawberry liqueur, and ½ overproof rum in a shaker with ice and shake well. Using a spoon, layer this on top of your shot. Rim with blue and pink sugar and enjoy!

The “Loud & Proud” Cocktail

This is a striking cocktail with vibrant colors and an exquisite flavor that you’re sure to love. It does, however, involve using a specific gin: Empress Indigo gin (distilled in Canada). However, if you’re not willing to get this luxury gin shipped to you, you could always use food coloring (though it won’t taste the same).

Shake 1 ½ oz Empress Indigo gin, ½ oz elderflower liqueur, ½ oz lemongrass syrup, 1 oz lemon juice, and 1 oz apple rosewater in a shaker with ice. Strain over boba pearls and ice into a Collins glass. Top with a blue coconut foam and garnish with an assortment of garnishes (recommended is a unicorn lollipop).

The Official Pride Drink: The Vodka Soda

Anecdotally, this is the official drink for pride – and it can be colored whatever color you like! And, it’s super simple to mix up. Simply stir together 2 oz good vodka and 4-6 oz club soda in a highball glass with ice. You can garnish with whatever you like – lime is popular. However, why stop there? Toss in a cute umbrella and maybe some berries.

In Honor of History: The Manhattan

That’s right – we included this as a pride cocktail because Manhattan is where it all started. With this cocktail, you can celebrate where we came from as a society and remember how far we’ve come. Sure, there’s still work to be done, but sometimes it’s nice to remember how hard people have fought for what we do have today.

To mix yourself up a Manhattan, stir up 2 oz whiskey, ¾ oz swede red vermouth, and a dash of angostura bitters in a glass with ice. Place a cocktail cherry into the bottom of your glass for serving, then strain the drink into that glass. And, in the spirit of Pride Month, maybe even garnish with a gorgeous rainbow umbrella.
