Iowa Distilleries

Welcome to Iowa, "The Hawkeye State," where you’ll find about twenty Iowa distilleries to tour and enjoy! Covered in glorious plains, rolling hills, and many rivers, Iowa’s natural beauty is certainly something to take in and enjoy while you’re here for a visit. We recommend avoiding this state during the winter, though – being pretty far north means that it snows quite a bit!

This state has some nice clustering of its distilleries, making it easier for you to visit all (or almost all) of the Iowa distilleries if you want to. It’s, by far, easiest to fly into Des Moines at Des Moines International Airport. This will get you right into the southern outskirts of the city. From there, you have six distilleries within a half hour of you.

You’ll find Iowa distilleries in Des Moines, West Des Moines, Norwalk, Clive, Cumming, and Grimes. These distilleries alone will take you a few days to work through. However, if you’re looking for a short road trip, Distillers Grains Technology Council is about forty minutes north in Ames, IA.

Other Iowa distilleries will take you east to the border for distilleries in Swisher, Bettendorf, Davenport, and Le Claire. If you take this two to three-hour road trip east, you’ll be able to hit four more distilleries very efficiently. In fact, one of the best-rated Iowa distilleries is on this route in Swisher, IA – Cedar Ridge Winery & Distillery.

While those might be the most efficient uses of your time, here at Distillery Nearby, we know that those outliers also hold lots of excitement and an experience that is worthy of your time. So, don’t knock them off the docket! Try to plan other things in the area and enjoy the beautiful Iowa scenery when you drive out so you can make a day of it!
