Kansas Distilleries

If you take a look at our list of Kansas distilleries, you’ll notice that there aren’t many – but don’t discount this beautiful state just yet. “The Sunflower State” is home to beautiful sights, genuine people, and (while not booming) a nice handful of distilleries. Interestingly enough, Kansas isn’t even a beverage control state.

If you’re flying into Kansas, you’re probably arriving at the Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport. This will bring you right into Wichita, Kansas, where there is one of your six Kansas distilleries: Wheat State Distilling. But this might not be the most efficient use of your time.

Considering that there are five distilleries in Kansas City, Missouri, another valid way to take this trip would be to fly into Kansas City, Missouri, visit the five or so distilleries there, then make your way into Kansas. Keep in mind that your Kansas distilleries in Atchison (to the north) and Dodge City (5 hours west) are going to be outliers – but they’re well worth the drive.

Otherwise, driving from Kansas City to Lenexa (20 minutes) to Olathe (10 minutes) to Ottawa (30 minutes) to Witchita (2 hours) is going to be the most efficient way to visit as many Kansas distilleries as possible. From Wichita, Dodge City is another two and a half hours west; so ending your trip with Boot Hill Distillery could be a good way to knock everything out before driving back to Kansas City.

Regardless of how you choose to divvy up your time, we highly recommend that you don’t miss out on Union Horse Distilling Co. in Lenexa, Kansas! And, while you’re traversing the beautiful plains of Kansas, stop to enjoy the scenery and talk to the locals; you won’t be disappointed by your stay in this beautiful state, even if you’re only here for a couple of days.
