Maine Distilleries

Welcome to “The Pine Tree State,” where the winters are brutal, and you’re basically in Canada! But, don’t let that dissuade you from visiting Maine’s beautiful, rocky coastline, enjoying some “lobstah,” and checking out the beautiful leaves along with the “leaf peepers” in October. There may not be dozens upon dozens of Maine distilleries to venture to, but the ones you will find are real gems – run by passionate distillers who really know their craft.

You’ll find seventeen unique distilleries here in Maine, and most of them are in Portland – which is lucky because that’s where Maine’s largest airport is. You’ll find six of the Maine distilleries in Portland, including some of Maine’s top-rated distilleries like New England Distilling, Maine Craft Distilling, and Hardshore Distilling Company.

Once you’ve visited all of the Portland, Maine distilleries you wanted to see, it’s time to venture out of the big city a little bit (don’t forget to visit the Portland Headlight while you’re there!). The closest distillery to you, if you’re staying in Portland, will be Cold River Vodka in Freeport, about twenty minutes north. From there, everything else is an hour or more of a drive.

If you really want to visit the best of the best in Maine distilleries, we highly recommend Wiggly Bridge Distillery in York (about 40 minutes south of Portland) and Split Rock Distilling in Newcastle (an hour northeast of Portland).

Regardless of which of the Maine distilleries you choose to visit during your stay in the beautiful state of Maine, we know you won’t be let down – the Maine craft distilling scene is vibrant and active, full of wonderful people who know their stuff. And, while you’re in Portland, don’t forget to check out Old Orchard Beach (about 30 minutes south) if you go during the summer!
