North Dakota Distilleries

If you find yourself visiting “The Peace Garden State,” you might be looking for something to do – especially something distillery-related! While North Dakota doesn’t have a large number of distilleries for you to visit, the  distilleries here are well worth the visit. We recommend you also visit local sites like Theodore Roosevelt National Park, the Scandinavian Heritage Park, and the Dakota Zoo.

The state’s largest airport, Hector International Airport, isn’t a bad place to start. You’ll be right in Fargo, where one of your North Dakota distilleries resides: Proof Artisan Distillers. Here, they distill gin, aquavit, vodka, liqueurs, cinnamon whiskey, bourbon, and malt whiskey. There’s something for everyone here and their tasting room is open on weekdays.

About thirty minutes from the airport, you’ll be able to visit Maple River Distillery in Casselton. They consider themselves a “boutique distillery” that distills brandies, flavored vodkas, and cordials – all with locally grown fruit. This is certainly a unique experience if you like those kinds of spirits.

The other two North Dakota distilleries are a bit more out of your way. You’ll find Red Pine Distillery in Grand Forks, about an hour and a quarter from the airport you flew into. Red Pine distills unique sugar beet vodka, spiced sugar beet rum, white sugar beet rum, wheat whiskey, a pickle-infused vodka, and a rhubarb liqueur. This is an intriguing assortment that we’re sure you’ll have fun tasting!

Finally, Moon River Distillery is about two hours from the airport, making it a significant trek. They offer vodka and a variety of honey and berry wines. This makes it an interesting visit if you’re willing to travel a little bit.

While you’re out and about, enjoying all of the wonderful sights and attractions in this gorgeous state, make sure to stop in at these North Dakota distilleries and enjoy some delicious tastings and beverages!
