South Dakota Distilleries

If you’ve never been to “The Mount Rushmore State,” you may not have many expectations about your trip into the state to visit South Dakota distilleries. This state is up north in the central part of the US, meaning that it can get very cold during the winter. If you are planning a trip into South Dakota, you might want to visit during the summer!

As far as South Dakota distilleries are concerned, you’re going to have quite a bit of driving to do. If you want to fly into the state to visit two South Dakota distilleries easily, you’re going to be flying into the airport in Rapid City, Rapid City Regional Airport. This airport isn’t as big as Sioux Falls Regional Airport, but it’ll get you closer to more South Dakota distilleries.

There are about six South Dakota distilleries on the western side of the state, while there are only two on the eastern side and a couple in the middle of the state. Seeing as South Dakota is a large state, we recommend you make use of the connections between Rapid City Regional Airport and Sioux Falls Regional Airport (also known as Joe Foss Field).

If you fly into Rapid City, you’ll be greeted with two wonderful South Dakota distilleries: Black Hills Contraband Distillery and Black Hills Dakota Distillery. Around there, you have a few options if you want to take a road trip: Bucket Shop Distillery, Dakota Spirits Distilling, and Deadwood Distilling Company. You’ll notice that all of these distillers have a unique passion for their craft.

We really recommend getting out and about in South Dakota to really experience the recent interest that residents have taken in local, craft distilling. And we highly recommend that you don’t miss out on visiting Mount Rushmore while you’re there!
