Virginia Distilleries

Welcome to the land of “Old Dominion.” This nickname was, quite literally, given to Virginia by King Charles II! As you’ll discover, Virginia is home to a plethora of historical sites, scenic locations, and passionate locals. This state boasts more than sixty Virginia distilleries, giving you plenty to explore and discover whether you live here or are just in town for the week.

If you’re not interested in visiting Washington D.C. for this trip, don’t bother with flying into that airport, even though it will get you within an hour of thirteen Virginia distilleries (and the fifteen in D.C. itself). If your goal is to visit Virginia distilleries and save D.C. for later, we definitely recommend flying into Richmond International Airport.

This strategy will put you in a big city with plenty of lodging and food options, but you’ll also be in prime real estate to see some amazing sites: the American Civil War Museum, the Science Museum of Virginia, the Virginia Holocaust Museum, the Black History Museum, and so many more! Plus, what you really came for, there are nine in-city Virginia distilleries

All these things could take you two weeks to get through, but if you’re up for a little bit of a drive, there are five more Virginia distilleries within an hour of Richmond in Williamsburg, Fredericksburg, Disputana, Maidens, and Powhatan. Or, if you are itching for four more in a single shot, you could hunker down in Charlottesville (only an hour and seven minutes from Richmond) for a couple of days. Regardless of how you choose to spend your time in the “Old Dominion” state, we know you’ll appreciate and enjoy your time in these Virginia distilleries – there is a fantastic spirits scene here and the distillers all know so much about their craft.
