The Party’s Over: What to Do on New Year’s Day After All the Fun

First and foremost, Happy New Year from the team at Distillery Nearby! We hope your New Year’s Eve party was amazing and that everyone cheered loudly when the ball dropped! However, now it’s January 1st, and you’re looking for something to do to start the New Year off on the right foot. Let’s take a look at what to do on New Year’s Day to keep yourself busy and excited about what this year has to offer!

New Year’s Eve Is Gone, It’s the Morning After!

What you do today is (most likely) going to be governed by how last night went. If you and your friends or family partied hard, today might need to be more low-key for you. However, if you were conservative and considerate with your body, you can certainly get out and do some fun things today. In this post, we’ll give you some fun options for what to do on New Year’s Day, regardless of whether you need to stay in or have the urge to go out and explore.

What to Do on New Year’s Day if You’re Hungover

Hangovers are never fun, and they hit everyone a little bit differently. If you are hungover from last night’s festivities, nurturing your hangover is probably the best bet – especially if you don’t have any commitments to attend to today.

#1: Make Yourself a Good Breakfast

Start the day off right – regardless of when that is – with a good breakfast that contains some healthy fats. There’s a reason why people say a nice breakfast can help with a hangover. You’ll be waking up with very little energy, so getting some delicious food that you love into your body will help set the tone for the day.

One dietician suggests wholegrain toast, a couple of eggs, some avocado, and sauteed spinach – alongside a cappuccino. We wouldn’t mind waking up to that in the morning!

#2: Take Some Painkillers

After or with your breakfast, take some painkillers. There’s no reason you should have to deal with your headache all day without taking something. Keep in mind that you can safely combine ibuprofen and acetaminophen if one or the other just isn’t cutting it. Just be careful not to exceed dosages (you already put your liver through the wringer last night!).

#3: Drink Plenty of Water

It’s well-documented that hangover symptoms are complicated by dehydration; so, getting plenty of water and electrolytes can help significantly. Grab a few sports drinks, make some herbal tea, and have some coffee – the works. Get some liquid into your body to help flush out those toxins.

#4: Take it Easy

Now, take or leave this tip as you like. However, if you did some dynamite drinking last night, it’s probably best to take it easy today. If you’re feeling crappy, your body is trying to tell you to take one for the team. If you feel better after relaxing for a while during the morning, just listen to your body’s queues and don’t overdo it.

What to Do on New Year’s Day if You Feel Fine

Now, not all of us like to stay up late on New Year’s Eve, go to parties, or drink way too much alcohol. If that sounds like you, and you’re looking for what to do on New Year’s Day to ring in the New Year, we have tons of fun options for what to do on New Year’s Day if you are feeling a-okay!

#1: Throw a New Year’s Day Party

If late nights aren’t for you, a New Year’s Day party might be more your speed! Whether you attend a friend’s or family member’s party or even throw your own, a New Year’s Day party can be the perfect way to ring in the New Year and get this year off to a good start. #2: Think About What You Want to Do This Year

If you’re the type of person that likes to set resolutions for yourself, spend some time ruminating on those and get started on them! For example, if you set a resolution to spend more time with family, get together with them and do something. Or, for example, if your New Year’s resolution is to visit all of the local distilleries in your state, see if any are open today!

#3: Host a Brunch

New Year’s Day is a great time to get together with friends and family. And, many of us spent a little too much time drinking last night! Regardless of how much you had last night, you can host or plan a brunch that your friends and family will certainly appreciate. Go simple with a bagel bar or (if you love to cook) go crazy with eggs benedict! You may also want to have the ingredients for mimosas, screwdrivers, or bloody mary cocktails on hand.

#4: Do Some Day Drinking!

There’s nothing wrong with a little day drinking every once in a while, and, honestly, New Year’s Day is prime time for it! You could mix up a cocktail with spirits from a local distillery and share your love of craft distilling with all your friends!

Regardless of what you choose to do today, start your year off right! Enjoy yourself today (and recover if you need to), involving your family or friends if you like. Have fun!

From all of us here at Distillery Nearby,

Happy New Year!
