About Copperwing Distillery

This distillery was the brainchild of three friends: Chris, Kyle, and Brian. The three friends decided they wanted to get into craft spirits – so they did! Since the brand’s conception back in 2014, the distillery’s operations have grown significantly; Copperwing spirits are on shelves in liquor stores across the state of Minnesota!

Clear Spirits

Vodskey

“A mistake so tasty we put a label on it!”

This is a very unique spirit that was apparently a mistake! It’s distilled more like vodka, but it’s made from a bourbon mash. It has all of the sweetness of fresh grains and some of the flavor of bourbon. This spirit has tasting notes of cherry and barley. Recommended cocktails include a Copper Buck (Mule) and The Captain.

Gin

“A cult favorite that is tree-free!”

This 94-proof gin has tasting notes of citrus, apple, and juniper. It’s steeped for nearly a week with undisclosed botanicals, then redistilled for clarity. Recommended cocktails include the Bee’s Knees and the French 75.

Vodka

This is an 80-proof, non-GMO corn vodka.The corn for this mash comes from Buffalo, Minnesota, so it’s locally-sourced. They combine their ultra-concentrated 190-proof distillate with “ultra-pure reverse osmosis-filtered water” for a clean, crisp taste. They perform further filtration with charcoal to ensure a clear final, never chill-filtered product. Recommended cocktails include the First Kiss and the Mocha Martini, but this vodka’s neutral profile really makes it great in any vodka cocktail.

Aged Spirits

Bourbon Whiskey

“Bourbon so tasty, it’s neat!”

The Copperwing Bourbon is a 90-proof, 4.5 year aged spirit using a high-rye mash bill. They also use malted rye, giving the bourbon a note of spice to the sip. The tasting notes for this bourbon are vanilla, butterscotch, and caramel. Recommended cocktails for this spirit are the Black Forest Manhattan and the Minnetonka Boulevardier.

Fresas

This is a unique take on their clear gin, to which they’ve added the infusion of strawberry and aging to create a new product. Unsurprisingly, this 70-proof gin has tasting notes of strawberry and citrus. Recommended cocktails include the Bitter Berry and the Fresas Y Tonica (a gin and tonic, basically).

Fernet Rame

This 80-proof spirit is a unique, “bitter-sweet Amaro-style herbal liqueur” that has some pretty interesting tasting notes. Apparently, this spirit was so popular in their cocktail lounge that they decided to bottle it for sale! The tasting notes for this spirit are spearmint, chamomile, anise, and orange. Recommended cocktails include the Fernet Con Coca and the Hanky Panky.

Events at Copperwing Distillery

If you’re looking for a fun, local spot to host your event for up to forty-nine people, Copperwing might be right for you! They don’t have an event rental price, but they do ask that you spend a minimum of $1,000 dollars during your event if it’s Sunday – Tuesday and a minimum of $2,000 if the event is Wednesday – Saturday. Some conditions apply, so make sure to check out their website before sending an inquiry.

There isn’t an outdoor patio, and dogs aren’t allowed in the cocktail room or distillery, per health and safety laws.

They also have pick-up and off-sale hours at the distillery Monday-Wednesday and Saturday from 10:00AM – 5:00PM, and Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00AM – 10:00PM. Pick-up and off-sale is not available on Sundays.
