Drum Circle Distilling (Siesta Key Rum) Spotlight

No one does American rum quite like Florida, and Siesta Key Rum is certainly no exception. If you’re looking for a delicious, US-based rum brand to support, this one won’t disappoint. Located in Sarasota, Florida, Siesta Key Rum is committed to high-quality products that can be used in mixed drinks while sitting pool-side (or by the ocean). Let’s learn a little bit more about this rum brand, made by Drum Circle Distilling!

Who Makes Siesta Key Rum?

Siesta Key Rum is made by Drum Circle Distilling. This distillery was opened in 2007 and they began putting rums out on the market by the end of 2009. Since then, Siesta Key Rum has become a local favorite. Drum Circle Distilling was opened by Troy Roberts and he was later joined by his friends and locals, Tom Clarke and Ryan Adams (source).

What Makes Drum Circle Distilling’s Siesta Key Rum Special?

Our approach is simple yet pure: Infuse real food ingredients to flavor our small batch rums.” – Siesta Key Rum

Florida’s oldest craft rum distillery is a local sensation. Furthermore, their dedication to small batch flavor is unparalleled. They are committed to using real ingredients to flavor their products. You won’t get artificial notes with their rums – this elevates the whole cocktail drinking experience, of course.

What Does Siesta Key Rum Offer?

Siesta Key Rum only makes – you guessed it – rums. However, their varied offerings make you forget you’re browsing only one type of spirit. Here are some of their most popular rum offerings:

Standard Label Rums

Siesta Key Toasted Coconut Rum | 35% ABV

It is a lot of work to make Siesta Key Toasted Coconut Rum the way we do, but we think it’s worth the effort.” – Siesta Key Rum

This is a highly popular flavor in cocktails, and Siesta Key uses real toasted coconut to impart flavor into their rum. The distillery recommends enjoying this spirit poured over ice with a splash of pineapple juice. It’s crisp, clean, and easy-drinking.

Siesta Key Spiced Rum | 35% ABV

The distillery uses “old-school methods” to produce this rum with a touch of honey and real spices – never artificial flavorings. In the final product, this dedication to quality really stands out. This rum has also earned awards and got 91 points on Wine Enthusiast.

Siesta Key Coffee Rum | 35% ABV

Another delicious rum (not a liqueur!) Siesta Key offers is their Coffee Rum. They flavor this rum with real Colombian coffee beans rather than liquid coffee or artificial flavorings. This gives the rum a true-to-taste flavor of cold brewed coffee rather than a watered-down essence.

Fun Fact: There is a small amount of caffeine in this rum.

Siesta Key Silver Rum | 40% ABV

Cooking Light magazine calls this rum “dangerously drinkable,” and for good reason. This is a smooth, lightweight rum with all the delicious notes you’d expect from a high-quality, small batch white rum. Drum Circle Distilling recommends enjoying this spirit with cola, juice, or in a cocktail.

Siesta Key Distiller’s Reserve

The Distiller’s Reserve spends time in barrels in a traditional solera method.” – Siesta Key Rum

This rum is aged continuously, with the oldest rum never being fully emptied from the barrel. This is a common practice called the solera method; it results in a more full-bodied and complex end result. This aging method can be used for a variety of spirits, not just rum.

Wine Enthusiast gave this rum 94 points, something that’s unheard of for a spiced rum.

Toasted Coconut Limited Edition Label Series: Support Local Causes

Siesta Key Rum has released several “limited label” bottles of their popular toasted coconut rum. According to Siesta Key, “Several of our Limited Edition labels support local causes.” Depending on the bottle you pick up, your money goes towards supporting various local charitable causes – we think that’s pretty cool. You can learn more about each label and what it supports here.

Siesta Key’s “Beer Barrel Spiced” Releases

For these releases, the distillery uses barrels that used to hold beer. This gives the rum a very unique flavor profile that you won’t find elsewhere. The beer barrel spiced rum is produced in very limited quantities so it can be hard to snatch up when a batch releases.

The tasting notes and proof for this rum will vary based on the batch number. You can find information about all of the different Beer Barrel releases here.

Siesta Key Rum Price

Drum Circle Distilling doesn’t list any prices on their website; however, online prices range from $20-27 for standard label bottles and upwards of $60 and more for Distiller’s Reserve and other bottles. Siesta Key Rum is very affordably priced.

Siesta Key Rum Review

As you saw in the sections above, Siesta Key Rum is incredibly well-rated. We recommend you give their bottles a try and experience them for yourself!
