Calvin Swine’s Moonshine at Patti’s 1880s Settlement

The Calvin Swine’s Moonshine boutique is the newest boutique at Patti’s Settlement. Similar to the other buildings on the property, the store has a country cottage aesthetic. Also, you will see a wood structure with a low roof and large stairs leading up to the front door. Once inside, you will enjoy rustic tree trunk beams above and a highly polished wood floor below. This is the ultimate guide to Patti’s 1880 Settlement and the moonshine you can buy when you visit this family-friendly destination.

Calvin Swine’s Moonshine Boutique

The name Calvin Swine is in honor of Bill’s favorite designer pig. And inside the boutique is a large curved bar. This is where you will go to taste Patti’s famous moonshine. Moreover, you can experience the moonshine and find your favorite before you go shopping.

While you can buy the full range of Patti’s moonshine spirits, they aren’t your only option. This is a full liquor store. Not only will you find several whiskey and bourbon varieties, but you can also buy tequila, vodka, rum, and many other spirits. Additionally, many of these spirits are distilled in Kentucky and Tennessee. Finally, there is a selection of wine also available for purchase.

In addition to alcohol, you will find a variety of alcohol drinking and bar accessories. Purchase souvenirs and tools to help you enjoy your newly purchased spirits.

Tastings

While Calvin Swine’s Moonshine offers free moonshine tastings daily, you do have to be at least 21 years old to partake. This is probably the only area of Patti’s 1880 settlement that isn’t entirely family-friendly.

Silent Brigade Distillery

Patti’s 1880 Settlement does not have an on-site distillery. Instead, the Silent Brigade Distillery does the spirit making for Calvin Swine’s Moonshine. This distillery is located in Paducah, KY. In addition to crafting moonshine for Patti’s, the distillery also crafts a lineup of its own moonshine and bourbon. The Silent Brigade was determined to be the best distillery for Patti’s to work with based on its proximity and distilling experience.

Patti’s Boatsinker Pie Moonshine

With a name like boat sinker, you know you are in for an experience with this moonshine. The smooth and rich flavor explodes in your mouth. However, it isn’t nearly as sweet as the actual dessert that inspired this one-of-a-kind moonshine. Bill’s Boatsinker Pie starts with a traditional flaky crust. For the filling, a velvety smooth dark double fudge is used. Next, the pie slice is topped with coffee ice cream, whipped cream piled on next, and then drizzled in chocolate syrup. A single cherry is the finishing touch to this intense dessert. Now, all of those flavors are combined to create this moonshine.

Patti’s Sawdust Pie Moonshine

Sawdust Pie is a famous dessert served at the on-site restaurant. In food form, it is a generous slice of a classic Southern pie. A traditional flaky pie crust is filled with a mixture of coconut, pecans, and graham cracker crumbs that have been combined with an egg batter. It then gets whipped cream and banana slices. It gets its name because children tend to think it looks like sawdust. This moonshine features all of the much-loved flavors of the pie. Now, think of it as a delectable dessert in a glass. Natural flavors are used during the distillation process to create this unique spirit.

Patti’s Calvin Swine Shine

Sporting the same name as the liquor boutique, this moonshine is a clear hundred proof moonshine. It is a potent spirit with some serious kick. However, it doesn’t have a severe bite. So, drinking it will be easy on the body. While the moonshine stays true to the classic formula, the distillation process uses modern techniques and methods. The clean and pure taste of Swine Shine makes it perfect for crafting cocktails.

History of Patti’s Settlement

Established in 1977, Patti’s Settlement is the home of Calvin Swine’s Moonshine. Bill and Patti Tullar visited Gran Rivers, KY, and fell in love with the town. Patti’s Settlement began as a small ice cream shop in a motel. Over time, the success of the ice cream shop led to giving way by the motel. Eventually, Patti’s 1880 Restaurant and Mr. Bill’s were also opened. To turn the business into a memorable destination, more features and things to do were added. The goal was to create a family-friendly entertainment and food experience. In addition, an animal park, mini golf course, mining, remote control boats, and playground add more fun to the experience. Over the years, the facility has grown to include shops, moonshine, and hotel rooms.

In 2018, a fire broke out in the kitchen of Patti’s 1880 restaurant. Despite the fire being well contained, it was determined that the entire building had to come down. After about a year of construction, the restaurant reopened in a brand new building at the end of 2019.
