The WhiskyX Experience: Over 60 Whiskies to Delight Your Senses

With The WhiskyX Miami edition just passed on March 11 and the Atlanta edition on March 25, we’d like to share some of the best whiskies featured at both events for you to discover and savor. Whiskey enthusiasts flock to The WhiskyX events every year to discover and sample over 60 curated spirits from the best distilleries across the globe. Attendees also get to learn about Whiskies, Bourbons, Irish Whisky, Scotch, Rye, Rum, and other cocktails. There are plenty of whiskies to sample at The WhiskyX, each bringing its own character to the category.

American Whiskey

America produces different types of whiskey, but the most-loved styles are Bourbon, Rye, and Tennessee Whiskey.

Bourbon

Whiskey enthusiasts will undoubtedly be familiar with the smooth taste of Bourbon. Kentucky is home to 95% of all bourbon production in the US. Kentucky boasts some of the country’s richest, most fertile soil, ideal for growing corn. Corn is a sweet grain and the main ingredient of Bourbon. This gives bourbon whiskey its “sweet spot.” The higher the corn content, the sweeter the Bourbon. Bourbon is aged in new charred wooden barrels and distilled at 125 proof or higher. Some of the top whiskey brands at The WhiskyX Experience are part of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and Kentucky Bourbon Trail Craft Tour.

Rye Whiskey

Another of America’s original whiskies. Rye Whiskey from at least 51% rye, corn, malted, barley, and wheat. It must also be aged in a charred new oak barrel and distilled at no more than 160 proof. Whiskey with higher rye content is spicy and bolder. Unlike Bourbon, Rye is produced anywhere around the world.

Tennessee Whiskey

Jack Daniel’s undoubtedly rules the world of Tennessee whiskey. But there are other major producers, such as George Dickel. Tennessee Whiskey is made using a mash of corn and undergoes aging in new, charred oak barrels for at least two years. Tennessee Whiskey also undergoes a distilling process known as the “Lincoln County Process.” This technique involves filtering the whiskey through a 100-foot layer of maple charcoal to give it a distinctive taste.

Scotch Whisky

The finest Scotch brands at The WhiskyX showcase Scotland’s unique regional flavors and environmental factors, offering a truly elevated drinking experience.

Regarded for its sophisticated and refined taste, Scotch is a highly sought-after whisky across the globe. It is produced in many styles in Scotland, but the most popular are Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Blended Scotch Whisky, and Blended Single Malt Whisky.

Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Made exclusively from malted barley, Single Malt Scotch whisky finishes its two-part distilling process aged in oak barrels at a single distillery for at least three years. The process lets the whisky imbibe the floral and fruity flavors layered with notes of smoke. Peat flavors are present in only a select few Single Malt Whiskies, and the smoky notes are particularly prominent.

Blended Scotch Whisky

Blended Scotch still doesn’t get much respect among whisky connoisseurs, but it continues to dominate sales nationwide. This Scotch whisky combines malt and grain whisky produced at different distilleries. It is then aged for a minimum of three years. Dewar’s Scotch is a smooth-tasting scotch blend of some truly fantastic single malts from Scotland and Japan.

Blended Single Malt Whisky

This refers to a blend of 100% single malts whiskies from different distilleries. A typical example is Johnnie Walker Black Label, which is a combination of both “Single Malts and Grain Whisky.”

Irish Whiskey

The whiskey that hails from the Emerald Isle (Ireland) is among the most renowned in the world. Irish whiskey’s unique aromas, mouthfeel, and flavor are a testament to its distinct category. Irish blends must be distilled from malted cereal grain and aged for at least three years. Additionally, Irish whiskey can come in different forms:

  • The Single Malt Irish Whiskey: Made from malted barley at one distillery using pot stills.
  • A Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey: Made from a combination of barley (unmalted) and other grains at an individual distillery using copper pot stills.
  • The Single Grain Irish Whiskey: Made from a single grain of wheat or corn.
  • Blended Irish Whiskey: Made by mixing different whiskies.

Japanese Whisky

Japanese whisky comes from Japan. The style of Japanese whisky is more similar to that of Scotch whisky. Suntory and Nikka are the most famous whisky distilleries in Japan. Both produce single malt whiskies, blended single malt whiskies, and limited editions. Many of the best Japanese whiskies are made using koji, a mold that turns starch into sugar. These spirits are distilled from rice or barley and other ingredients and aged in barrels to give them a unique flavor.

Canadian Whisky

Most Canadian Whisky is a blend of a small amount of a pronounced whisky with a light-flavored whisky. However, Canadian whisky must be aged for at least three years in wooden barrels in Canada by law. Also, Canadian whisky can be made with any grain, such as rye, corn, wheat, and barley. Canadian Whisky is gentle on the palate, flavorful, and versatile compared to other whiskies.
