I really believe that a trip to a distillery is one of the best activities to choose on a break away. They are super fun, very educational, and you get to taste some of the best spirits around. What more could you ask for? It’s just all in all a great day out. And Colorado is home to some of the very best whisky distilleries around. So in this article, I thought I would outline some of the Colorado whisky distilleries that you just won’t want to miss. So, keep on reading to find out my top 14 picks.

Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey

There are so many different activities and events you can take part in at this distillery. They offer quite a few different tours where you can learn more about the process of how whisky comes to be. I would definitely recommend trying out the Cask Finishing tour which is incredibly interesting.

Other than tours, there are also cocktail classes and a whiskey and chocolate pairing session which is great fun and involves lots of sampling. Yum. They also have a lounge where you can sip away at whisky flights or cocktails.

Mile High Spirits

While this distillery is known for its vast selection of amazing-tasting whiskey and bourbon, there are also plenty of other spirits on offer too. Along with the rum and whiskey you’ll also have gin, vodka, rum, and tequila available. You’ll have the option to sip away at seltzer cocktails and many other drinks in the tasting room. And if you go on the weekend you’ll also be treated to some great music to listen to as well such as local DJs and live bands.

Brothers Paul and Danny own this amazing distillery. If you love whisky, then this is definitely a place made for you. The brothers offer single-malt wheat whiskey, rye whiskey, and whiskey bourbon so you’ll have plenty to choose from.

They also have a nice selection of vodka and gin too. You’ll definitely need to try the single-malt whiskey with its caramel, butterscotch, fennel, and licorice undertones!

This is yet again, another great option if you’re hoping to enjoy a distillery. This distillery offers much more traditional options that taste absolutely fantastic. Enjoy a range of bourbon and rye whiskeys along with some gin and vodka too.

They also offer a really great tour too, so be sure to check it out. You’ll get an in-depth look at the production facility and will learn all about how spirits are made. And the best part – you’ll be able to sample up to ten of their delicious spirits at the end of the tour!

Leopold Bros.

Who would have thought that you could enjoy an amazing distillery and be helping those in need? Well, the kind brothers Todd and Scott Leopold donate half of the net proceeds from any of their amazing tours to local charities. So not only will you learn loads of new interesting facts but you’ll also be helping the Food Bank of the Rockies, Project Angel Heart, and Children’s Hospital of Colorado too.

While at the distillery, you’ll also get the chance to taste some of the best-tasting whisky, gin, and Maraschino liqueur you’ll ever try.

Denver Distillery

Nothing screams good quality quite like an array of award-winning spirits. The produce at Denver Distillery is highly acclaimed and you can be sure to fall in love at first sip (see also ‘10 Unmissable Denver Distilleries You Should Check Out‘). The distillery offers some of the most delicious rye whiskey and four-grain bourbon. They also offer an array of vodka, gins, and rum. You’ll definitely want to try the Dark Rum made from Black Pearl Select molasses and raw honey!

Definitely take the opportunity to spend time in the tasting room and try both classic and seasonal cocktails.

Laws Whiskey House

For those that truly appreciate whiskey, it would be almost rude not to visit Laws Whiskey House. You will sample some truly impeccable whiskey. This distillery uses only heritage and heirloom grains grown right here in Colorado for any of their whiskey. It is also aged for a minimum of two years in American white oak barrels to ensure only the best quality.

They also have limited-release options available along with a gorgeous bourbon whiskey. If you’d like to learn more about the process be sure to tag along to either a public or private tour.

The Family Jones Spirit House

You’ll definitely want to book yourself a spot on the weekly guided tour and tasting session that takes place here. You’ll get some small bites and a flight included! They have some of the most incredible whiskey and bourbon on offer along with gin, vodka, and rum too.

You can have the chance to build your own flight with up to 8 spirits and snack on some super scrummy snacks such as cookies, smoked chicken salad, and spicy candied walnuts.

Mythology Distillery

I must say this is one of my favorite distilleries to visit because they offer not just amazing spirits but some of the best snacks around too. Enjoy sipping away at amazing whiskey, rum, vodka and gin while also snacking away when in the tasting room. You need to try the petzel board that is loaded with chocolate, caramel, and mustard dipping sauces. Yum.

They also have tours available which are super interesting and teach you about both the spirits and their distilling process. And bonus – you can use your tour admission fee as a credit towards the purchase of a bottle! Yay.

Ironton Distillery & Crafthouse

If you’re looking for a distillery where you can just chill out, sip away at great tasting booze, enjoy a delicious meal, and even bring your favorite four-legged–friend along – then this is the place to be.

The 10,000-square-foot patio is dog-friendly and they cook delicious wood-fired pizzas. The dough is even created using the spent grains from the distilling process! In fact, they even have used grain doggy treats too!

Be sure to try the whiskey ice cream or coffee ice cream made from the distillery’s coffee liqueur.

The Block Distilling Co.

2990 Larimer Street

At this distillery, you’ll have the choice of tons of spirits. You’ll be able to sample some amazing bourbon along with vodka, gin, and coffee liqueur. They use a combination of grains, one from a farming family in Missouri along with grains from Colorado malt houses.

Bear Creek Distillery

You’ll definitely have plenty of whiskeys to choose from at Bear Creek. They offer a wide variety including white whiskey, rye whiskey, wheat whiskey, straight bourbon, and wheat bourbon. Not only this but they even have two types of vodka and some rum too (see also ‘Can You Mix Rum And Vodka?‘).

You can take a tour around the facility and learn all about the distilling process and you can even use your admission fee towards the purchase of a new bottle of whiskey (or any other spirit of your choice.)

Deviation Distilling

You’ll find plenty of delicious spirits being created at this distillery. The whiskey and bourbon are out of this world and they also have several gins too.

You’ll definitely want to take the time to visit the tasting room that takes place in an old 1800s firehouse that has been renovated into a lounge, patio, and event space. Choose from delicious whiskey, classic cocktails, and more. Even enjoy a few spirit-infused chocolate truffles.

Molly Brown Distillery

2300 East 77th Avenue

Molly Brown Distillery is a bourbon-drinker’s dream. The bourbon is never chill-filtered. Beautiful bourbon is aged in a 53-gallon American charred oak barrel. They have so many different delicious flavors.

You’ll be treated to caramel, vanilla, and chocolate undertones and notes in the High Rye Bourbon while the Spice Bourbon is filled with clove, cinnamon, and vanilla.
