Why All the Rage for Mangoes on National Mango Day?

As most of us are aware, mangoes are a tropical fruit that grows in warm places like India (the top producer of mangoes in the world), southern California, and southern Florida. Mangoes are believed to have originated in southern Asia, in areas like India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. But
 Why are they so popular?

#1: Mangoes Are Sweet

Like other fruits, mangoes are full of natural sugars which make them a nice treat – all while being full of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Mangoes also have a very distinctive taste. This makes them perfect for baked goods, smoothies, and even mango cocktails!

#2: Mangoes Have a “Tropical” Vibe

Even though the USA produces some mangoes, it’s not enough for consumer demand. We still import most of our mangoes from Mexico. It might seem silly, but mangoes have that je ne sais quoi that screams “tropical” to our taste buds. This makes mangoes a fun experience, every time we eat them!

#3: Mangoes Have Global Appeal

Mangoes have an extensive global reach, with different varieties coming from various parts of the world. From Alphonso mangoes from India to Tommy Atkins from the Americas, these diverse flavors allow mango enthusiasts to explore the distinct tastes of different regions. How to Make the Best Mango Cocktails for National Mango Day:

Want to make the most delicious mango cocktails on National Mango Day? Here are five tips and tricks to help you out:

  1. Choose Ripe and Flavorful Mangoes: The key to a fantastic mango cocktail is using ripe and flavorful mangoes. Look for fruit with a vibrant color, a sweet aroma, and a slight give when gently squeezed. Mangoes that are too firm may lack the desired sweetness, while overripe ones might taste mushy.
  2. Experiment with Mango Varieties: Explore different mango varieties to find the flavor profile that suits your taste. Whether it’s the rich and creamy Alphonso or the honey-like Ataulfo, each type brings its unique twist to the cocktail. Don’t be afraid to mix and match to create your perfect blend.
  3. Balance the Flavors: Achieve a well-balanced cocktail by incorporating complementary flavors. Consider adding a splash of citrus-y lime juice or a hint of spiciness with chili powder or jalapeño slices. Balancing the sweetness of mangoes with contrasting elements ensures a more nuanced and enjoyable taste.
  4. Garnish Creatively: Elevate your mango cocktails with creative garnishes. A simple mango slice or mint sprig can add a touch of elegance, while a sugar or chili-salt rim on the glass rim boosts visual appeal. The garnish not only enhances the presentation but also enhances the aroma and flavor as you sip.
  5. Use Local Spirits: For an authentic and locally inspired touch, opt for local spirits in your mango cocktails. Supporting regional distilleries not only adds a unique twist to your drinks but also connects your celebration to the flavors of your area.
