FAAR – What They Believe

The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility has quite a few core beliefs. In fact, they have a very long list that you can scroll through at your own leisure. However, they primarily boil down to a few points.

1. Responsibility – We as people are aware of our own actions and how these actions can have consequences that affect not only ourselves but others.

Therefore it is our own individual responsibility to ensure that we behave suitably and take ownership of the consequences of poor decision-making.

2. Education Is Key – For individuals to be able to effectively take the necessary responsibility for their alcohol-based behavior they must be correctly educated about the impact and consequences of these actions and behaviors.

And so a focus on resources and education is imperative.

3. Spirit Producers Play A Part – Distilled spirit producers have a responsibility to ensure that they are promoting responsible and safe consumption of their products.

Because of this, producers must also play a part in implementing the solutions to help eliminate the alcohol-related problems of the world.

But how does the organization plan to turn beliefs into reality? With 5 important key initiatives.

  1. Communication – More meaningful communication with a border range of partners and stakeholders.
  2. Support & Advocacy  – Additional support and advocacy for effective, efficient, and focused public policies in terms of responsible drinking.
  3. Research – Continued research that can become actionable for those on the frontlines of change.
  4. Innovative Approaches – Recognize the sensitive topic and find new and effective ways to approach the subjects in ways that relate to the needs of diverse populations and communities.
  5. Unwavering Commitment – Constant commitment to safer and healthier individuals, families, and communities.

Their History

The FAAR has been committed to its cause for over three decades, and the website Responsibility.org has delivered successful results for many of its missions over those years.

Thanks to its evidence-based, partnership-driven, and outcome-based approach, they have been able to see quantifiable results of a reduction in underage drinking and drink-related impaired driving.

In fact, you can even read the 2021 Impact Report for yourself which clearly demonstrates the great work that the foundation is doing to create more education and resources on alcohol misuse.

Prevent Underage Drinking Resources

Responsibility.org is all about having open, honest, and engaging conversations about alcohol and the responsibilities that come with it. The more we talk, the more we learn, and the more we know.

One of the main ways they promote the prevention of underage drinking is through parents communicating with their children. One of the core beliefs of the foundation is that these conversations should start young and never stop.

But knowing how to approach these conversations can be pretty tricky. That is why the website provides parents with resources for varying different age groups. You can find these resources below.

Final Thoughts

While alcohol can be used for a good time, it’s imperative to remember that it can be both addictive and destructive when used improperly or irresponsibly.

The mission of this organization is to ensure that individuals understand how to drink responsibly and understand their limits and duties to others.

A third of all traffic deaths are a result of drunk driving and underage drinking can be reduced by up to 50% through parent and child conversations.

These are just two statistics to consider but you can find plenty more here, that goes to prove that this work is vital to our homes, families, and wider communities.
