Tennessee Distillers Guild

Tennessee Distillers Guild

The Tennessee Distillers Guild is a group of distilleries from Tennessee that represents more than 30 distilleries from within the state. These distilleries represent brands that are known across the world, to those which are well kept local secrets.

The goal of the Tennessee Distillers Guild is to promote the local distilling industry as well as advocate for those who produce spirits within the state of Tennessee, and in doing this, help the industry grow.

If you are planning to visit Tennessee, or if you are a local, and want to visit some amazing local distilleries, using the Tennessee Distillers Guild as a resource is a great idea!

History Of The Guild & Formation

In 1810 there were over 14,000 distilleries over the US and there were 100s in Tennessee alone with more than 30 in Chattanooga.

This was the largest industry in the state in 1866, however this was ended in 1909 when a law was passed to stop producing alcohol in the state which was 10 years before prohibition.

This prohibition was repealed in 1933 but was only repealed in Tennessee in 1937. Until 2009 only 3 counties allowed for distilling being Moore, Coffee, and Lincoln county.

In 2009 state senator Bill Ketron and state representative Joe Carr managed to pass a bill which allowed distilling in 41 more counties, and then later the number was raised to 75, this all led to the distilling industry in Tennessee growing back to what it is today!

The Tennessee Distillers Guild was then formed in late February 2014 with only 13 members. The guild was created with 3 main goals in mind.

These were to promote spirits within the state responsibly, to advocate for the industry at a local, state, and a federal level. The final goal was to create a palpable network between distillers within the state to be able to connect and support one another.

There is also the associate program which aids to build partnerships as well!
