Connecticut Distilleries

As you browse through our list of distilleries by state here at Distillery Nearby, you’ll notice that Connecticut certainly isn’t one of the biggest states in distilling for the country. However, don’t discount The Constitution State based on this one fact. If you visit Connecticut, you’ll actually find dedicated, passionate distillers with a commitment to furthering Connecticut distilleries.

Part of the reason there aren’t many Connecticut distilleries is the sheer size of the state. Connecticut is only about 5,542 square miles, a tenth of the size of neighboring New York (where there are over 100 distilleries). However, this also works in your favor if you’re trying to visit every distillery in the state. It’s only about a two-hour drive from one end of the state to the other, meaning that valuable travel time can be spent inside distilleries and trying delicious spirits.

You’ll find that the Connecticut distilleries are mostly in the western part of the state in cities like Bethel, Shelton, and Waterbury. Hartford will be a great city to consider a “home base” while you visit as many Connecticut distilleries as you would like during your stay in this lovely Northeastern state. Plus, flying into Connecticut can bring you straight to Hartford.

New Haven isn’t a bad choice either if you’d like to work your way up north from there. If you want to get the most out of your trip North, come during mid-October – the leaves are simply stunning.

Regardless of how you choose to break up your trip, visiting all Connecticut distilleries is a manageable task that is well worth a week or so of your time. If you only have time to experience a couple of Connecticut’s distilleries, we highly recommend Litchfield Distillery and Fifth State Distillery. However, all of Connecticut’s distilleries have something unique to offer the distillery enthusiast.
